Weekly Favorite Links (Feb 12-18, 2015)

For Valentine’s Day and President’s Day weekend, my family took a trip to Sedona, Arizona. It wasn’t really to celebrate either holiday since we had a more important occasion in mind: my brother’s birthday! Plus we all agreed that we needed to spend some much-needed quality time together, away from the city life. Praise God for my family and for this trip because it was so a-w-e-s-o-m-e! Sedona is absolutely breathtaking, and it was during my time there that I marveled at how great God is and how wonderful is all His creation. I happened to be reading Psalm 8 for my morning devotions one day, and the words really struck me. It was perfectly timed and relevant. It’s worth sharing:

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babies and infants you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger.

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?

Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

The photo above is what I took with my smart phone. And while photos really don’t do Sedona justice, I can’t wait to show you the other photos that our family took using our fancier camera. I’d definitely go back there again because one weekend wasn’t enough.

Now onto the weekly faves from the web!

A Man’s Perspective on Yoga Pants – A really honest and personal confession coming from a Christian man on the issue of lust. Praying for my brothers. The heart struggles are real and it’s hard.

4 Lies Culture Tells Us About Sex – Interesting read.

10 Questions on Dating with Matt Chandler – I loved this Q&A. Practical and biblical.

The Real Faces Behind the Gay Issue – YES. Needed to be reminded of this, and it’s not just when it comes to the issue of gay marriage but in our everyday lives. “In a moment, when I’d typically be too uncomfortable to speak, distracted by my sheltered life and unsure of what to say, God helped me share his love. Sometimes we can get so bogged down in the issues that we forget that all issues belong to people — hurting people. Lost people. Alienated people. People just like us before Jesus stepped into our lives.”

Blessings of Singleness: The Pain of Misplaced Shame – Encouraging and beautiful.

Stephanie over at i am a food blog shares all her waffle makers as part of her “What’s in my Kitchen?” series. It’s perfect timing ’cause I’ve been looking into waffle makers lately, as well as a lot of other kitchen gadgets. There’s so much that I want to buy! Sigh. Learning to practice self-control (and save money!!) since I can be an impulsive buyer, which obviously yields many consequences and regrets.

Tips on Cooking for One – Ali from Gimme Some Oven shares some really awesome do’s and don’t’s when it comes to cooking for yourself! I wish I had some of these tips back when I was living on my own! I think some of these tips could also be easily applied to cooking for yourself and your family. Some of her tips are so on point. I’m guilty when it comes to overbuying groceries and not making a meal plan ahead of time. I also need to learn not to waste food and to find creative ways to re-use leftovers.

Mini Yakitori – This YouTube channel is crazy cute and awesome! Super duper creative. Here’s just one of many cool videos!

Cheddar and Bacon Waffles – I love savory breakfasts! This one sounds like a winner and it’s creative! Will try making this when I buy a waffle maker….

Cold and Warm Salmon Scrambled Eggs – Whoaaa. It’s a salmon version of a lobster roll! With creamy scrambled eggs?!?! Salivating now.

Chicken Pot Pie Burger – Sounds like the perfect comfort food.

Misc News

10 Things Taiwan Does Better Than Anywhere Else – Yes, I miss the night markets and just how food is so convenient and cheap and delicious! Gah! Take me baaaccckkk

Star Wars Wedding – This makes me want to have a Lord of the Rings or Sherlock themed wedding one day.

Here’s an interesting piece of commentary on the new ABC sitcom, Fresh Off The Boat. I haven’t watched the new sitcom myself, but I’ve heard a lot of good things about it.

This song came up a couple times on the radio during our family road trip. I rather like it, even though it gets a bit repetitive near the end. But I think that’s rather the point. My favorite part’s the chorus and I hope it encourages you, as it encouraged me:

My help comes from You

You’re right here, pulling me through

You carry my weakness, my sickness, my brokenness all on your shoulders

Jon Neufeld, vocalist and co-founder of the band Starfield, performed one of his original songs at GMA Canada’s Covenant Awards last month! I saw him perform live a couple weeks ago and he’s super talented and passionate about music, but more importantly about God and the gospel message. I was really blessed by the worship set that night and how he led the entire congregation to praise God through musical worship and prayer.

Earth to Jupiter Volume 2 – My super talented friend and brother in Christ is releasing some new songs come February 24th! What’s not to love about free songs and good music? So excited for this release! Here’s a teaser to whet our ears for now.
